eMusicWire -- TEMECULA CALIFORNIA — The California Music Hall of Fame and Museum will officially induct iconic Americana singer-songwriter Gary Green at their April 14 2024 ceremony.

Green, whose legendary albums are already part of the Smithsonian Institution's Folkways collection, is best known as "the outlaw folksinger" whose influence helped shape a generation of socially-conscious writers using music as an organizing tool. He later became a concert impresario, organizing and financing large production shows across musical genres from rock, country, soul, folk, Broadway, R&B, and comedy.

Writing about Gary's influence, the late Pete Seeger said, "Hell there should be a Ballad of Gary Green". From mentoring the young Tupac Shakur to producing the most infamous Bob Dylan album, Green first obtained the "outlaw" moniker from his inciting —and often intentionally confrontational— lyrics at his appearances for civil rights, labor, anti-war, LGBTQ+, and other progressive groups.

Performing at rallies for The American Indian Movement, The Black Panther Party, and dozens of labor unions, his white southern hillbilly-music roots stood in stark contrast to the expected fare at such gatherings. Paradoxically, his personal friendships with Johnny Cash, Maybelle Carter, Waylon Jennings, and other country music "outlaws" was contrary to his "radical hippy" image.

With his songs covered as diversely as by alternative-rocker Frank Black (The Pixies) to being used as the basis of a Paul Newman movie, Gary is the author of the upcoming roman à clef music-autobiography, THE LEGEND DIES ON.

This year's CALIFORNIA MUSIC HALL OF FAME class of inductees along with Gary Green includes B.B. King, David Cassidy, Bob Eubanks, Casey Kasem, Cherie Currie, Michael Peterson, Tyrone Dubose, Tony Valentino, Lemoyne Alexander, Jimi Jamison, Soul Pointe, Vern Shank & the Cherry Drops, the K-Tel All Stars, and other influencers.
