Karen I. Hirsch Photos Honored by Black & White Spider Awards

CHICAGO - eMusicWire -- The 14th Annual International Black and White Spider Awards gave honors to two of  Karen I. Hirsch photos. "Gravesite Geometry" pictures a geometric formation of graves at a cemetery  in Punta Arenas, Chile. "Stepping through the Light" shows the silhouette of one of the photographer's friends in a light tunnel exhibit at the Fine Arts Museum  in Houston, Texas.

6,418 entries were received from 73 countries. The Jury represented some of the photo industry's biggest names. They came from the  Musee de l'Elysee, Lausanne; The Guardian, London; Contrasto Galleria, Milan; Travel/Discovery Channel, New York; Harper's Bazaar, UK; Portuguese Center of Photography, Porto; Aeroplastics Contemporary, Brussels; Silvan Faessler Fine Art, Zurich; ADK Creative One Inc., Tokyo; Galerie Hubert Winter, Vienna; Conny Dietzschold Galleries, Sydney; and Pereira O'Dell in New York.

About Karen I. Hirsch:

Karen I. Hirsch is an international award-winning visual artist based in Chicago. Her work has been published internationally in magazines, newspapers and books including Communication Arts and Graphis photo annuals.  She has received art grants from the City of Chicago and the Illinois Arts Council. In 2007, the government of China invited Hirsch to document the city of Rizhao.
