NEW YORK - eMusicWire -- Dean Ford's classic Christmas song "All I Want For Christmas" is out today and available on all music services. Written in 2017, the song captures a certain yearning and melancholy that sometimes prevails during the holiday season. The late Scottish singer, songwriter, and musician rose to fame in the early 1970s as the front-man of The Marmalade with their worldwide hit "Reflections of My Life," recently covered by Belinda Carlisle of the Go-Gos.
Born in Airdrie, Scotland, singer/songwriter Dean Ford joined The Gaylords in 1963 after Junior Campbell and Pat Fairley saw him perform with The Monarchs at the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. The band changed its name to "The Marmalade" in 1966, and Jimi Hendrix called their song "I See The Rain" "The Best Cut of 1967." Marmalade was the first Scottish band to hit number one on the UK Singles Chart, and the band charted ten additional times, including the worldwide hit "Reflections of My Life," written by Ford and Campbell. The original band broke up in 1975.
Ford released his self-titled solo album, produced by Alan Parsons, in 1975. He made an appearance on Parsons' 1978 album 'Pyramid,' and recorded with his former bandmate, Hugh Nicholson.
