SOMERVILLE, Mass. - eMusicWire -- Noteworthy Sheet Music, LLC (NSM) is an online sheet music publisher, specializing in but not limited to flute and alto flute music, with a catalog of over 200 editions. They offer original works by distinguished contemporary composers, re-notated versions or facsimiles of rare historical scores, and unique transcriptions and arrangements of pieces from the classical repertoire. Selected NSM publications are offered as professionally-printed hard copy editions, while most are available as convenient PDF downloads from https://www.noteworthysheetmusic.com/.
Vincent d'Indy was an eminent French composer and pedagogue; he was born in Paris in 1851 and died there in 1931. He composed his Choral Varié pour Saxophone solo (ou Alto) et Orchestre, Op.55 in 1903, and also created an orchestral reduction arrangement, published by Durand the same year, for alto saxophone (or viola) and piano; it is this edition that NSM used as the basis for their transcription of the solo part for alto flute. The piece is appealing and distinctive, solemn and tender. It adapts nicely to the alto flute, highlighting the beautiful, intimate quality of that instrument's low-register tones. The NSM publication provides only the new transcribed alto flute part; the piano part, as the composer's score in concert pitch for solo and piano, works well with the new alto flute part and is freely available as a PDF download from imslp.org. For additional information about this new edition, visit the NSM listing page at https://www.noteworthysheetmusic.com/score-descriptions/transcriptions-alto-flute/dindy-choral-varie-op-55-trans-alto-flute-r/.
