Celebrate Mardi Gras, plus the timely Year of the Snake, with the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, this year joined by special guests Jason Palmer and Henri Smith, in what has become an annual Boston-area bon temps rouler tradition.
BOSTON - eMusicWire -- : The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble was formed in 1990, when Cambridge-based saxophonist Ken Field assembled an improvisational horn and percussion group with trumpeter and cartoonist Scott Getchell. The impetus was to entertain at a pagan women's ritual celebration.
Since then, RSE has evolved and carried on in a myriad of ways. But one of the many constants over time is their devotion to maintaining their funk/street beat improvisational brass band style, performing a unique blend of original and traditional music that's heavily influenced by a strong New Orleans vibe. With a particular penchant for always celebrating this particular time of year, that begs for those winter blues to get a swift good times roll kick in the butt.
A show at this point may seem like entertainment on the Titanic, but it's something RSE absolutely has to do to maintain the collective sanity of all. So RSE hopes one and all will join them to celebrate Mardi Gras 2025 at Scullers Jazz Club on March 1st, which is right around the bend. And welcome into every inch of your mind and body, that bon temp rouler vibe of New Orleans during this Year of the Snake.

The time to shake that booty is coming right up, with RSE's outstanding krewe members co-founder Ken Field (alto sax), and Tom Hall (tenor sax), Dave Harris (sousaphone), Blake Newman (bass), Phil Neighbors (drums), along with very special guests, the incredible Jason Palmer on trumpet & legendary New Orleans native Henri Smith on vocals. This year's performance will be dedicated to the memory of saxophonist and long-time RSE collaborator Amadee Castenell, who is sorely missed.
