Tribute evening includes guest composer's "From Time to Time"

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - eMusicWire -- The Michigan Philharmonic will once again host a special tribute to veterans during a Veterans Day celebration on Friday, Nov. 15 at Saint Kenneth's Church in Plymouth.

Led by Conductor and Music Director Nan Washburn, now in her 26th season, the Philharmonic will offer "Soul of Remembrance," featuring American composers and honoring this nation's heroes across many generations, including guest composer Anthony Iannaccone's "From Time to Time."

Besides Iannaccone's "From Time to Time," the 7:30 p.m. concert features American composer and pianist Mary Watkins' "Soul of Remembrance" along with Aaron Copland's "Letters from Home" and a joyful movement from George Gershwin's "Porgy & Bess."

Michigan composer Anthony Iannaccone is a well-respected American composer and conductor whose music has been performed by major orchestras and chamber ensembles. He has conducted numerous regional and metropolitan orchestras in the United States and in Europe. From 1971 to 2013, he taught at Eastern Michigan University where he conducted the Collegium Chamber Orchestra and Chorus.

This concert also includes a side-by-side performance with the Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) led by Hektor Qyteti.

Other pieces to be performed include "American Salute" by Morton Gould and "Born on the Fourth of July" by John Williams. Iannaccone's "From Time to Time, Fantasias on Two Appalachian Folksongs" will be followed by "Soul of Remembrance" from "Five Movements in Color" by Watkins and Copland's "Letter from Home." The evening concludes with "Catfish Row: Suite from Porgy & Bess."
