David Andrew Wiebe Reflects on His 19-Year Live Musical Performance History
ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia - eMusicWire -- Music Entrepreneur HQ Founder & CEO David Andrew Wiebe recently completed reconstructing his extensive musical history, including performance and tour dates, release dates, and other significant events.
Wiebe, who has performed over 300 shows across western Canada, started noticing several trends as he was reviewing his past.
"I realized that there were several teachable moments," Wiebe offered. "So, I started putting together a new post, sharing what I thought were the major takeaways from my performance career."
In his early days, Wiebe performed at churches, colleges, coffeehouses, and bars with his band. But as his solo activity started picking up, his career would come to include the esoteric, humanitarian, and seasonal – performing at networking events in libraries, hot dog lunches for addiction and mental health clinics, holiday artisan markets, and more.

"Musicians always have stories to tell," commented Wiebe. "And while the new online performance archive doesn't tell the whole story, it's the story it was telling me that I became fascinated with. I started thinking to myself, 'if I had it all to do again, what would I do differently?' And the answers to that question started forming the foundation of the new post."
Wiebe refers to himself as a "recovering archivist," who had a near complete record of all shows he'd ever played – including those with side project collaborations, tribute bands, Calgary's own Long Jon Lev, and more – only that the data had to be dug up.
"This has been a long time coming," offered Wiebe. "I took a bit of a break from music in the mid-2010s, so my record keeping got kind of spotty. But it feels good to have it all in one place, even if it's imperfect and partially incomplete."
As Wiebe's example shows, inspiration sometimes comes from unexpected places, including a musical history archive with a timeline of events, as opposed to something more compelling like a memoir with all the gory, sexy, and tantalizing details.

"That's another reason to write a post about the experience, don't you think?" Wiebe continued, "And my only wish is that other artists benefit from it as they seek to develop their own live performance careers."
Wiebe says his performing days are far from over, though current political-healthcare restrictions are a factor, and he doesn't see himself taking the stage again until changes permit.
