Hip-Hop musician and educator duo, Soul Science Lab, launches "Page to the Stage" digital songwriting, music production and performance module series for music educators and artists.
NEW YORK - eMusicWire -- Soul Science Lab has launched "Page to the Stage," a new master class series to equip music educators with a culturally responsive curriculum, video tutorials and resources to engage young learners in the world of hip-hop. WATCH VIDEO
Soul Science Lab is comprised of musicians Chen Lo and Asante Amin, who have a combined 40 years of expertise in hip-hop and Black-rooted music. The duo has performed and taught at some of the world's leading performing arts institutions, including Lincoln Center, the Apollo Theater, Music in Schools and Teacher Education Commission and others. The duo has collaborated with Lincoln Center Education to create a Black history and arts education curriculum to support their live multimedia retrospective concert of the Black experience in the US, Soundtrack '63. Soul Science has also collaborated with Carnegie Hall for their Summer Music Educators Workshop and Musical Explorers programs, including video tutorials and 10 live performances for 5,000+ New York City grades K-2 students.

With increased requests to lead music educational programs across the country, the duo has developed "Page to the Stage," a three-module learning series in hip-hop songwriting, performance and production grounded in the Black music tradition now available at SoulScienceLab. teachable.com. Each module includes video tutorials, worksheets and activities to engage students, available for $249.99. The full three module series, including master classes, worksheets, activities and Black music timeline, is priced at $1,199.99.
Lo and Amin designed the digital learning suite to support 6th to 12th grade arts educators seeking supplemental curriculum and fun workshops to integrate into their virtual classroom. "Page to the Stage" is uniquely fitted to equip young adults with the tools, inspiration and critical thinking to not only create and perform full hip-hop songs, but to understand the methodology and traditional roots behind their creations. The series is also tailored for aspiring hip-hop artists seeking to enhance their skills.
"COVID-19 has forever changed how we approach live performances and in-person learning," Chen Lo reflects. "For innovative Afro-futuristic griots like ourselves, we recognize that these limitations foster creativity and present new opportunities for engagement. Through virtual learning programs like "Page to the Stage," we can support a wider audience of music educators, students and emerging artists seeking tools to sharpen their hip-hop skills."
