The President's Volunteer Service Award is being presented in recognition of the individuals' service to the community in promoting education, supporting community development, and planting seeds of change through their volunteerism at Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute.

Volunteerism has always played an important role in the national identity of the American people. It's a defining characteristic of U.S. society. The award was founded in 2001 by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to honor the positive impact of volunteerism and to inspire others to take action.
Recipients give unselfishly of their time and talent to arrive at solutions to many of the challenges facing the nation in venues large and small.
PPGJLI was launched to empower youth through literacy, leadership, and diverse cultural books. PPGJLI educates through the arts and humanities, workshops and seminars, reading events, and book giveaways. Many activities have been made possible through volunteerism.
