SAVANNAH, Ga. - eMusicWire -- On the heels of a successful weekend of their Phil the Neighborhoods series, the Savannah Philharmonic will present their second concert of the season at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm, featuring works by Dvořák, Tchaikovsky, Popper, and Frank.
Led by the masterful baton of Music and Artistic Director Keitaro Harada, this special evening of music will showcase female composer Gabriela Lena Frank and will also feature various orchestra members throughout the concert.
"Frank is an artist who is deeply passionate about identity," shares Maestro Harada. "She was American born, but her heritage ranges from Peruvian/Chinese to Lithuanian/Jewish. I am excited for our premiere performance of Elegía Andina (Andean Elegy), which explores what it means to be of several ethnic persuasions, of several minds. It uses stylistic elements of Peruvian arca/ira zampoña panpipes and features our two talented flutists, Jeana Melilli and Regina Helcher Yost."

Further, the SavPhil's Principal Cellist Daniel Mumm will be making his debut with the SavPhil, performing works by Tchaikovsky and Popper, both of which explore the rich expressiveness of the instruments.
Thursday's performance closes with an important work by Dvořák, New World Symphony, which Harada describes as "a journey about identity and ethnic persuasion, throughout which we see his Czech colors merge with American sounds and melodies."
