SOMERVILLE, Mass. - eMusicWire -- Noteworthy Sheet Music, LLC (NSM) is an online sheet music publisher with a catalog of over 200 editions. They offer original works by distinguished contemporary composers, re-notated versions or facsimiles of rare historical scores, and unique transcriptions and arrangements of pieces from the classical repertoire. Manuel de Falla is regarded as one of the greatest Spanish composers of the twentieth century. Much of his music is rooted in the folk songs and historical traditions of Spain, particularly in the Andalusian idiom. Siete Canciones populares Españolas ("Seven Spanish Folksongs") is a cycle of traditional songs from various regions of Spain set by Falla in 1914 for voice and piano. The work quickly became very popular. In 1925, six of the seven songs were arranged for violin and piano as the Suite populaire Espagñole by the Polish violinist, composer and arranger Paul Kochánski. Additional versions have since been prepared for solo piano, voice and guitar, piano and cello, and orchestra. Noteworthy Sheet Music recently created an alto flute part by adapting ideas from both the Falla vocal line and the Kochánski violin line, modifying pitches, articulations, dynamics, etc. as needed to best suit the alto flute's range, strengths, and style. The alto flute part is intended to be accompanied by piano using the original Manuel de Falla score for voice and piano, which is not included in the NSM edition but is available as a free downloadable pdf from the imslp.org website.
