Northern California indie-punk band SWMRS play an intimate headline show at The George Tavern celebrating 10 years of their debut album 'Drive North'
EAST LONDON, U.K. - eMusicWire -- California-born band of brothers SWMRS will play a special show at The George Tavern on 15th May 2026, part of their upcoming US, UK and EU tour celebrating ten years since the release of their debut album Drive North.
A record that captured youthful urgency, restless energy and a sharp melodic instinct, Drive North marked a defining moment for the band- introducing their punk-inflected sound and fearless live spirit to a global audience.
A decade on, SWMRS return to those roots in the most fitting way possible: an intimate, grassroots London show presented by independent promoter and record label MDST.
Formed by singer/guitarists Max and Cole Becker when they were barely teenagers, SWMRS have cultivated a dedicated fanbase over fifteen years through catchy songwriting, DIY touring ethos and explosive live performances. The band has undergone various lineup changes over time, but when younger brother Cade Becker joined on bass in 2022, something transformed. The brotherhood of the members was no longer incidental- it became essential. For SWMRS now, family is everything- and you're invited to join theirs.

Choosing to celebrate Drive North with an underplay at The George Tavern speaks directly to the band's DIY and punk values. Rather than opting for scale, SWMRS are leaning into connection: sweat-drenched rooms, close quarters, and the raw immediacy that defined their early years.
The George Tavern is an independent grassroots music venue and pub in East London, known for supporting emerging artists, hosting underplays, and giving space to new ideas and scenes. Operating for over 20 years in a historic building, it has become a well-known hub for alternative music and culture, regularly spotlighted in national press for its role in nurturing future talent, with highlights such as The Last Dinner Party's first ever show. The George remains artist-led, community-focused, and committed to keeping live music accessible and affordable in the face of ongoing pressure on grassroots venues.
For MDST, securing and promoting this show marks a major milestone. As an independent London-based promoter and record label committed to artist development and grassroots culture, hosting SWMRS' ten-year anniversary celebration reflects a shared ethos: independence, community, and belief in building scenes from the ground up. Bringing an internationally recognised band back into a grassroots setting demonstrates the power and importance of independent promotion in sustaining live music culture.

With limited capacity and a set expected to revisit the songs that launched their career, the night promises nostalgia, chaos, and a reaffirmation of the DIY spirit that Drive North embodied ten years ago.
