"Third Thursdays": announcing the spring lineup for April and May to launch the second year of this monthly harmolodic jazz series, with host keyboardist/composer Dave Bryant joined by fellow Ornette Coleman colleagues.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - eMusicWire -- Cambridge-based keyboardist and composer Dave Bryant, a long-time sideman of free jazz legend Ornette Coleman, embarks on his second year of presenting his monthly "Third Thursdays" concerts, a harmolodic jazz series, with concert lineups already in place for April and May, which include visiting artists who were also former Ornette Coleman colleagues.
For April 20th, Bryant will be joined by members of the NYC-based Just Ornette Quartet, led by electric piccolo bassist Al MacDowell, a former Coleman collaborator, along with quartet members acoustic bassist Tony Falanga, also a former collaborator, and drummer Tony Lewis. MacDowell's veteran quartet is guided by Coleman's groundbreaking free jazz principles and explores his deep and diverse catalog of compositions.

For May 18th, Bryant has invited drummer and former Coleman colleague Gregg Bendian (https://www.bendianmusic.com/about), along with bassist Hilliard Greene (https://hilliardgreene.com/index.php/bio/), to join Bryant in a fully charged harmolodic trio format. This will be Bryant and Bendian's first performance together since the 2020 release of their Night Visitors CD with the late bassist Charnett Moffett.
Bryant notes that these two spring concerts, which will kick off the next 12-month round of "Third Thursdays" concerts, will "continue our mission of featuring Ornette Coleman sidemen—including Gregg Bendian, who memorably contributed to a performance of Ornette's chamber music, to Tony Falanga, who was an important part of Ornette's final quartets, and especially Al MacDowell, who was an indispensable member of three different Coleman ensembles."
All "Third Thursdays" concerts are held at the Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church, located just outside Harvard Square, with the following basic information:
