SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - eMusicWire -- Ginger Beat, a rising world-beat band in the San Francisco Bay Area, has unveiled their new single, "Belle of the Ball". Blending irresistible reggae-style rhythms with clever storytelling, the track offers a playful yet affectionate nod to 1950s culture, celebrating the era's iconic cars and culture, while adding a dash of levity, humor, and commentary. Released on July 11, 2025, "Belle of the Ball" is accompanied by an official music video featuring the stunning 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air automobile. The video has already drawn over 90,000 views, captivating audiences with its vintage charm and attention to detail, including two mint-condition, light-blue Chevy Bel Airs with a special focus on their gleaming whitewall tires.
Band leader and composer, Arjan Khalsa, originally wrote the song for a vintage car show festival and drew inspiration from childhood memories. "My mom was an activist with an engineering degree, a bit of a rebel," he shares. "I saw the car as a symbol of freedom. I chose to use a reggae groove in 'Belle of the Ball' to capture that same free and rebellious spirit." To truly capture the visual magic of the eponymous classic vehicle, Arjan sought out original 1955 Chevy Bel Air vehicles to feature in the music video. He discovered two gems: "Belle Blue," a local Bel Air just 10 miles from his home, perfect for live video, and a car from Illinois featured on the popular YouTube channel "My Car Story," from which he borrowed footage.

Founded in 2022, Ginger Beat began as Arjan's "all-originals" project. His extensive musical background includes studies with renowned musicians such as Zakir Hussain, Jon Adams, Ali Akbar Khan, Vikram Singh, Ralph Towner, Jennifer Jolly, Bill Evans (banjo), and Wes Corbett (The Sam Bush Band). The band's current iteration also features percussionist Ron Rico Duben (Tito Puente, Jr., Edgardo Cambon), violinist Alice Fitzwater (Foxes in the Henhouse), and a lineup of multi-instrumentalists and vocalists who bring the band's signature "feel-good" sound to life.
"Belle of the Ball" is now available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. The video can be found at the official Ginger Beat YouTube channel. For more information, visit the band's website at www.gingerbeat.com.
